What is TED?

TED is a nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics—from science to business to global issues—in more than 110 languages.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED created TEDx—local, self-organized events that bring people together to share in a TED-like experience. Organized by curious individuals who seek to uncover local ideas, TEDx events combine TED Talks and live speakers to spark deep discussion and connection with smaller, community audiences. Each TEDx is unique to its location, making every event a distinct and authentic experience for presenters and attendees alike. TED provides general guidance but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

What is TEDxUGA?

TEDxUGA is an independently organized TED event that brings UGA’s leading thinkers and doers to the stage to share their passions, stories, inspirations, research, and ideas worth spreading. Each March, the University of Georgia and Athens communities come together to connect in a collective experience that extends beyond the theater, reaching a total audience of more than 4 million since 2013. TEDxUGA has become not just a highly anticipated annual event but also a community partner, a piece of the UGA curriculum, and a campus movement dedicated to ideas worth spreading.

How am I involved?

Since 2019, I’ve served as the Director of Communications for TEDxUGA and a member of the Steering Committee.

I manage all of TEDxUGA’s various social media accounts, create thematic graphics, promote presenter nominations, advertise ticket sales, and help make sure the event runs smoothly.
